For the first post of 2016 I’d like to take a look at the year that we have just left behind, as well as try to peek into 2016.
The good guys at wordpress.com have a ready-made report for 2015 with some key figures for my blog, so if you are interested in that kind of stuff, click the link below.
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 36,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 13 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
2015 was a good year for PowerShell, and if I’m going to try to sum it all up into a couple of points, I think the most important areas/topics that were introduced in 2015 were:
- We are coders
- Testing (Pester)
- Gallery (sharing)
If it’s one point that were being repeated throughout 2015, it is that we (scripters) need to consider our self coders. With this shift in mindset also comes a responsibility to use the tools of a coder, to ensure that our code are secure, stable and that all changes are documented. The tools to be able to do this are all available for us in the form of Pester (testing) and Git (and other similar systems).
Lastly, if you want to participate in the PowerShell community, we now have the PowerShell Gallery where you can share your code.
To round up I’d like to peek at the year we are entering. For me personally I have quite a few exciting things ahead of me, not all of which I’m able to talk about yet.
But what I CAN talk about is some New Years resolutions that I’d like to set for myself for this year:
- Write at least 52 new posts on my blog
- Attend at least 2 conferences
- Speak at a conference*
- Publish at least 4 modules to the PowerShell Gallery
- Learn (and start to use) Pester
*I’m already chosen as a speaker for the PowerShell Conference Europe in Hannover this year, so this one should be easy to get done 🙂
If you’d like to share your own New Years resolutions, feel free let me know in the comments sections below. I wish you all a happy new year!
